On November 5, it should close for about a month Fontanarossa airport in Catania, which serves three-quarters of Sicily, 7 provinces of 9. Yesterday was finally reached technical agreement between the Air Force, ENAC and the Sac for use in Sigonella during the closure of the airport for the maintenance work.

Closing the airport for a month would have meant blocking the mobility of most of the Sicilians, send home tourists, cut off from air traffic much of Sicily. However, an agreement will be costly for the Sac, which will be forced to shell out a total of several hundred thousands of Euros, but for Catania and Sicily is an important agreement, as stated by Senator White, who has had these days with new talks Minister Passera, with Undersecretary Improta and President of ENAC Riggio. I thank the President of ENAC – said White – for their commitment and for his sensitivity to understand that you could not afford that half of Sicily remained isolated for a month. The agreement will accommodate all flights at the airport of Fontanarossa Sigonella and may also be useful in the future. On Monday, at the ministry it will be made official and perfected so that all companies can adapt.

We tried the solution – ends – a significant problem. The agreement is important and I am happy because the efforts made in recent weeks has paid off, avoiding unacceptable inconvenience to Sicily and Sicilians.
